F UNDACIÓN E DUCACIÓN M ÉDICA (FEM) 68 2.8. An honest and trustworthy physician Physicians must oppose all attempts by other parties with commercial interests to over-medicate society. As a result of patient trust, physicians are obliged to act in bene"t of them and thus avoid unnecessary use of services and consumption of drugs. Physicians should be aware of the importance of not only being honest but also appearing so, and therefore should always act transparently and avoid being involved in health lobbies activities, especially when doing so legitimates them. Hence, physicians with the support of professional associations should de"ne how to proceed when faced with situations with a con&ict of interests that cannot be avoided with preventive measures.
